Review of wellness guidelines
Hello Saltonstall Families,
First, I wanted to extend my thanks for all you do to keep our community safe! I know it is not easy and adds an extra burden to your already busy lives.
Second, here are few points to keep in mind:
Please, make sure that your student comes to school equipped with a mask, and ideally a back-up mask as well. We are seeing many smiling faces in the morning, which is wonderful, but once they enter the building they need to be covered with a well-fitting mask. If you have a difficult time obtaining them, please let us know, and we will help.
It is still encouraged that you perform daily wellness checks on your child prior to their start of school each day.
If your child has:
- Fever (100.0 Fahrenheit or higher), chills or shaking chills
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- New loss of taste or smell
- Muscle aches or body aches
- Cough (not due to other known cause, such as chronic cough)
- Sore throat, when in combination with other symptoms
- Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea when in combination with other symptoms
- Headache when in combination with other symptoms
- Fatigue, when in combination with other symptoms
- Nasal congestion or runny nose (not due to other known causes, such as allergies), when in combination with other symptoms
You should keep your child home, call the main office at 978-740-1297, and make an appointment with your child’s doctor. Do not hesitate to call the nurse at 978-740-1218 with any questions or concerns.
If your student develops covid-like symptoms, a proof of a negative PCR COVID test, or documentation from a medical provider with an alternative diagnosis is required for clearance to return to school.
There are over the counter rapid tests available for purchase and will be offered in downtown Salem during the month of October. Rapid testing can be very useful in certain situations. However, PCR test is still required for return to school if covid clearance is needed.
In addition to a negative covid test, your child should have improvement in symptoms, >24 hours without vomiting, diarrhea, or fever (without the use of fever-reducing medications).
As an additional layer of mitigation please sign your child up for FREE COVID testing in schools. Our testing team comes to our school every Monday and collects shallow nasal swab samples from our students. It is painless, easy, fast, and safe. The more students get tested, the safer our school becomes. If you have any questions about the process, please reach out to the nurse at 978-740-1218.
Please, sign up on Parent Square or download and print this consent form linked below (or request a paper copy be sent home) if you’d like your student to participate in Covid-19 testing. Please, deliver this consent to the front office of your school.

Stay Well,
