Happy Heritage Celebration Moth
Hi Guys
I am so happy to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month with you again. This celebration has been very important for our school for the last 7 to 10 years. I remember when Ms. Costin and Ms. Peguero approached my mother and I to be part of the school Celebration for the first time! Now, I am reaching out to all of you to be part of this important event.
Last year we changed a few things a little bit in a way to become more inclusive and mindful of other cultural holidays and heritage celebrations happening during the summer until December every year and also to include other cultures that came to our continent in the 1400s and 1500s. Our New celebration name is “HAPIIPA (Hispanic, African, Portuguese, Italian, and Indigenous Peoples of America) Heritage Celebration”, and this year’s event will be on Oct 13th, I will be sending more information soon.
Please reach out to me if you celebrate your heritage between summer and december, if you have anything that can be displayed in our celebration, If you have a history that you would like to share, if you can bring a traditional food or if you want to collaborate in any possible way (any help is greatly appreciated, nothing is too small or too little).
Finally, just remember that we will be starting our celebrations with the Faceless doll Workshop today from 5pm to 8 pm at our Auditorium. See the Flyers below.
Hugs
Jenni

SPS Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month begins on Thursday, September 15th and extends through October 15th. This month long celebration recognizes the cultures, histories, and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx people. A new addition this year is an art competition with the Punto Urban Arts Museum/Urban Art Museum to create and celebrate culture by creating Faceless Dolls. We encourage you to join the celebration across the district!
The Multilingual Learner Department will be collecting videos of students and staff who identify as Latinx to share-out what they are proud of about their or their family’s heritage. This year, we would also like to gather videos from school principals, assistant principals, and district leaders who can, in 1-3 sentences, say why Hispanic/Latinx Heritage month is important for their school or for the Salem Public Schools as a whole! Here are the video questions for Latinx Heritage Month. Please take the videos you record and drop them in this folder! The videos should be brief (no more than 30 seconds). Make sure to encourage your colleagues to capture video of themselves and their students as well! Want some inspiration? Check out our Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month video from 2021!
